Garden of Hope
Survivors and forever fighters are invited to attend a special breakfast in the Garden of Hope. The Garden of Hope will be located in the Agora Courtyard. We request that visitors be limited to just the survivor/forever fighter and one guest. Seating will be provided for those with special needs and is limited. Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. on Race Day.
We will be giving away crystal prizes donated by National Race Sponsor, Ford. We also have three beautiful jewelry pieces donated by BR Diamond Suite. Survivors and forever fighters are automatically entered into the drawing when they register, and we will be drawing the winning names around 7:45 a.m. in the Garden of Hope tent. Must be present to win.
We are also proud to announce that local artist, Liina Keerd, is back to help us celebrate the 20th Susan G. Komen South Central Wisconsin Race for the Cure! This year’s poster called, “Flowers from the Farmer’s Market”, is based on an original oil painting by Liina (see below). Posters and notecards will be available on Race morning, where Liina will also be on-site, personalizing the posters.
The accompanying quote is:
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn
Garden of Angels
Sponsored by There are Angels Among Us
Pay tribute to the loved ones we've lost to breast cancer by submitting a photo and a short paragraph telling us about them. Photographs and stories will be displayed in the Garden of Hope on Race day. Remember your special angel by submitting a 4"x6" Hi Resolution photograph along with a 250 word story to email@example.com by April 29.
Start Line Ceremony
It's no secret that our participants mean the world to us. This year, we are excited to announce a new Start Line tradition - "Ribbons of Hope".
Pink represents our survivors and forever fighters. White represents anyone who has been touched by breast cancer, and who has been there to lend support from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. And silver represents those who have lost their battle and will walk alongside you in spirit.
Before leaving the Komen Race for the Cure, we ask that you tie the ribbons to the Agora Pavilion. Volunteers will remove the ribbons after the Komen Race, and will tie the ribbons together - creating our 20th Anniversary Komen Race for the Cure "Garland of Hope".
You can pick up a ribbon during Registration and Packet Pick-up on Friday, May 19 at Fitchburg Community Center at 5510 Lacy Rd between 1pm and 7pm. Or, you can pick it up on Race day, Saturday, May 20 at the Information/Donation Tent, Registration Tent, Garden of Hope Tent, or the Garden of Angels Tent.
Kids for the Cure
Sponsored by DreamBank, American Family Insurance
American Family Insurance understands the power of dreams and they created DreamBank to celebrate their transformative power. Join us in the Kids for the Cure area underneath the permanent white pavilion on East Cheryl Parkway. You will find interactive tools and all sorts of good fun before and after the Race, including face painting and an obstacle course by Madtown Twisters. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Also, every registered child (ages 6-12) that participates in fundraising by May 14 will receive a special medal on Race day. Stop by the Kids for the Cure area after your run/walk to receive your fundraising medal!
I AM KOMEN.®
Komen’s rallying cry is I AM KOMEN.®, encouraging women and men to take an active role in their breast health: to become educated about breast cancer and understand that being aware is the first step in the process. Listen for the cheers as you walk or run the Race and join in!
Registration/Packet Pickup Area
If you still need to register on Race Day or need to pick-up your Race T-shirt and bib, visit the Registration and Packet Pick-Up Area located near the permanent white pavilion on East Cheryl Parkway. This area will be open from 6:00am to 8:30am on Race Day. “In Memory of” and “In Celebration of” back signs will also be available for all Race participants here.
Stop by and say “thank-you” to our National Series Sponsors and local Race sponsors for their generous support of our Race and of the fight to end breast cancer forever! Give-aways and promotional items are found in this festive area.
Race participants can drop-off any pledges/donations collected at our Information/Donation Drop-Off Booth located in the Exhibition Village (near the Registration Area).
Purchase Komen merchandise and Race souvenirs in our Exhibition Village from ShopKomen.org. Purchase with a purpose!
